Homemade Baby Food

Have you ever made your own baby food?  It is sooo easy.   And you don't have to buy something just for making baby food.  They sell specialized equipment just for that.  It steams it and has a blender attached.  Is wonderful, I am sure, but I am a practical person, and I think you can use stuff you may already have.

Now, I admit, I *may* have more gadgets than the average gal, but really, you can do it with basic stuff.

-- The Magic Bullet ( a blender will work, too) --

Have you heard of this??  It is basically a personal blender to make smoothies,  grind coffee beans (or regular beans), make margaritas, etc.  We have had it for a while and it is perfect for baby food. It's easy to clean and there are seperate individual cups, so you can make a bunch of stuff at a time.

Load the peas into the bullet and...
Push down,

and it grinds them up.

Did you know peas are actually BRIGHT green when they are not canned??

Applesauce is so easy, I will never buy it again.

A crock pot is good for this.  A little dipper, I think they are called.

You slice up the apples, add some water and cinnamon (if you want), and cover.

It takes a few hours, but you just put them in and forget about it.

You can microwave them too, I am sure, not sure how long, but just until soft.

I also have made it with pears, too.  I didn't add the cinnamon to the apples and pears, and it was fantastic.  I had some, and it was yummy.

Once again, in the Bullet, and there you go!!

Carrots - I just steam them in my rice cooker/steamer, throw them in the Kitchen Aid, and..

Brookie- Boo seems to like them too!

That is her "it's cold" face!!

Yummers Nummers.

Next I will tell you about our Super Porridge.
Very Healthy!!  Good for Baby.

A Happy Thing

My family has professed our undying love for "Modern Family."  We have patiently waited all summer for this show to return to our Wednesday nights.   We have the entire season on DVR in both rooms, yet I could not help myself yesterday and bought the first season on DVD.  This will go great with our family Hippy Van.  I think they were Made for Each Other.   Oh, and if Captain Craig bites it, I am thinking Phil Dunphy-Yo is my man.

First Day of School

Fifth and Eighth grade, and oh yeah, the little one stays with me.  They don't exactly look awake yet.  Boo Boo woke up about 2 minutes before the picture was taken.
Happy First Day!

Is it procrastination? Or is it perfectionism? It may be a fine line.

I read somewhere once that procrastinators are really perfectionists.  Like we can't get that little piece of smudge that we just dropped on the floor cleaned up because I can't get on my hands and knees and scrub the entire thing right now, so I'm not going to do it.

I love for things to look good.  I want to have everything coordinate.  I like the pretty pictures in magazines.  I like good looking websites with perfect pictures.

So I haven't really done anything with this yeat.

I want this blog to be about something.  Problem is, I don't know what it should be about.

No, I say to myself, it has to be in a niche.  Cloth diapers.  Decorating.  Country Life.  Crazy family antics.  Random Musings.  My T.V obsession.  Cooking and Baking (ha).

But I don't know where to take it.

So I have decided NOT to make it about anything.  Yet.  I am just going to write.

Write about whatever.  And see where it goes.  I'll write about everything.

It won't be perfect.

And if you know me, you wouldn't expect it to be.

Kind of like my house.  It's a cluster.  All the time.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Just a few goodies we found at my mom's house.

friday lovin'

O.K.  So I don't like to do dishes.  If the dishwasher doesn't clean it the first time, it goes through again.  And if that doesn't work, it will go through pretty much indefinitely.

But, I discovered this nifty little kitchen accessory a few weeks ago while enjoying some Three Buck Chuck at a friend's house, and honestly feeling quite guilty about never helping clean up.

So I grabbed it.  And scrubbed, and scrubbed.  And gosh darn it -- It works!
Now, I scrub BEFORE the dishes go in the dishwasher.
You put the soap in the scrubber (apple - yum), push the button, and viola!
Clean dishes!!

Go get one!  You will be doing dishes and scrubbing those pesky remains of food on all of your pots and pans.

(and you know you have them!!)

It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive!

We had some good times when we lived near Stone Mountain.  We used to spend our summer there.  This picture brings all the memories of Raffi, the library, Dragon Tales, preschool, and our Jetta, which we called Herbie.

Happy New Year and Happy New Blog.

I really hope 2010 is uneventful and just really calm.  Last year was pretty awesome with the arrival of Boo Boo, but when my mom died, that pretty much kicked us all in the gut.  I miss her every day.  Just trying to plug along like she did when her mom died.  I am 34.  My mom was the same age in 1980 when she lost her mom.  I knew she missed her mom every day like I do, but she never let her sadness take over.  I guess I'll just get used to it.  I just miss her.  A lot.

So Happy 2010.  Hope it rocks!
